Building Seven

While walking from the Tribeca Film Festival to the train the other night, the girls and I were approached by (let's call her) "Party Girl." We were approached by her as we were crossing the overlook of the World Trade Center hole. She stopped us and asked us if we knew where 7 World Trade Center was. What? Um, I don't think it's there anymore, honey. She then walked off. I was irritated by Party Girl. But she was right and I was wrong.

It's back! 7 World Trade Center is rebuilt. It took them four years, but what do you know? This is the building I had been working in just prior to September 11. I was laid off the week before (thankfully). I didn't like going there, mostly because I was supposed to be working up on Lexington Avenue, but since there was no work there, they kept sending me to Building Seven. I would come in from Brooklyn toting my bags for acting stuff, only to have them tell me to go back downtown. Not a happy time.

I'm glad I'm out of that financial world. Let's not kid ourselves, though, I'm in now in advertising, which is still corporate. Is it possible to not go corporate and survive? Or did I survive the first time with luck by getting out of it?

Remember how sad we were that we lost our jobs just before 9/11? It all didn't matter that Monday, and I was actually quite happy that you had been laid off the week before and were saved from that experience.
