Open Calls, Closed Hearts
There are a lot of open calls happening right now; theaters are casting for their summer seasons! Today's auditor just wasn't in the mood! Normally I try to get the first audition slot after their lunch break, so they are fresh! Today I had such a spot. I walked into the room and the woman actually sighed. Then she looked at her list and said, "You're number 78 today." Um, okay. I said, "Oh, well, I guess that's an okay number, right?" What did she want me to say? Was I supposed to sympathize with how tired she must be? Should I have taken pity on her, and just left?! Really! And you know, she wasn't a director, she was a producer. Perhaps I should cut her some slack...right!

I wouldn't cut her any slack. That is a person you don't want to work for or with.

Of course, later on, I realized that's my apartment number! That would've been awesome to mention!

Speaking as a former actress who laments the entire system of said previous career, I personally feel that her comment and behaviour were horribly unprofessional and inappropriate. My sympathies to you. How are you supposed to concentrate or have confidence after that? Unbelievable. Reason number umpteen why I got out!
