I Heart Ocean City

We went with friends to Ocean City this weekend. It's now the second Memorial Day in a row we've gone there. All those beach houses! A B&B called Somewhere Inn Time. Taffy. Fudge. Strawberry Lemonades. Sand. Seashells. The Boardwalk. Putt-putt. The Pavillion. A world away from the hot summer concrete jungle of New York City!

The Mr. Souvlaki Fortune Teller

Today I had jury duty. And I really lucked out! My name was called right away, but when they led us up to the court room, we were told to return at 215! As the court house is in my neighborhood, I was able to go home and nap! When I returned, we waited awhile before getting into the court room. Then, they called 16 jurors to be interviewed for the MURDER trial. My goodness, I'm glad it wasn't me! They were only looking for 2 jurors plus alternates, so I didn't even have to get interviewed.

Lucky, because I was pretty worried a trial could conflict with my upcoming trip to Greece. So, to celebrate, I took my new camera around the neighborhood to get used to it. Then I went to the bookstore to get some books on Greece. Then, to Mr. Souvlaki. We don't frequent the only Greek restaurant in our neighborhood, but we should! Excellent service, excellent food! The waiter talked to me about Greece, recommended some places to visit. Then, he read my fortune in the remains of my coffee! I'd read about this in North of Ithaka, the book I'm reading.

I couldn't believe the accuracy! He saw two planes (I'm flying to Detroit first to fly out with my mother). He saw money. (Yep, that's how I was able to go!) He saw a hunter, supported by someone behind, standing in front of a few people opposing. This represents my struggle to stay in New York pursuing acting with Mr. H, and my family wanting me to return to my home state! Isn't that something! I guess it told me more about the present situation, than what really will happen, but, hey! I think I'll go back regularly!

Try to be fabulous!

I love this saying. An older, diva-esque AE used to say this to me at my old temp job. He was a handful, but at least he had spunk!

CAST ... AT LAST!

Was just cast in a play! It's directed by and starring several of my friends! They are a talented, charismatic bunch, and I have missed them! Hold your breath, though, folks, it's not going up until the fall! Stay tuned ...

It won't be much money, but when you're with friends, all is good, all is well and ... you're not better off dead!

Love & Yes

Love is a place

And through this place of

Love move

(with brightness of peace)

all places

Yes is a world

And in this world of

Yes live

Building Seven

While walking from the Tribeca Film Festival to the train the other night, the girls and I were approached by (let's call her) "Party Girl." We were approached by her as we were crossing the overlook of the World Trade Center hole. She stopped us and asked us if we knew where 7 World Trade Center was. What? Um, I don't think it's there anymore, honey. She then walked off. I was irritated by Party Girl. But she was right and I was wrong.

It's back! 7 World Trade Center is rebuilt. It took them four years, but what do you know? This is the building I had been working in just prior to September 11. I was laid off the week before (thankfully). I didn't like going there, mostly because I was supposed to be working up on Lexington Avenue, but since there was no work there, they kept sending me to Building Seven. I would come in from Brooklyn toting my bags for acting stuff, only to have them tell me to go back downtown. Not a happy time.

I'm glad I'm out of that financial world. Let's not kid ourselves, though, I'm in now in advertising, which is still corporate. Is it possible to not go corporate and survive? Or did I survive the first time with luck by getting out of it?

Omens

If a black mouse crosses your path (instead of a black cat), is it good luck or bad luck? Perhaps the bugger was being chased by an unseen cat (color unknown). It's happened to me a couple of times in the last week. Dododododo....

On Being a VIP

So, we went to see a band I'd never before heard of this weekend: Super Diamond. A local politician thanked Mr. H with tickets, so I tagged along. According to their website, Super Diamond has been playing Neil Diamond songs since 1993. Huh. Neil Diamond. What did he sing? What didn't he sing, is more like it! Yes, "Sweet Caroline," "America," "Love on the Rocks." I liked this band. They were fun. But, you know, I think one needed to be with the masses to really feel the music. The VIP section was in the balcony house right. But it wasn't right. One shouldn't look down on stars such as Super Diamond, one should look up at them, on the stage, where one can be more in line with their massive energy. Then, again, who were these audience members who were so into Neil? They must be older than me...yeah, maybe the balcony was for the best...

Anyway, Super Diamond, I'll see you around; and until then...maybe consider modifying your name: how about Supa Diamond? Just a thought.

She's my best friend (la, la dee da)

This is my bicycle, my Raleigh Retroglide Cruiser. I normally have named my rides in the past...there was Margaret, my white Grand Am, for instance. But I never named this bike. This is the 3rd bike I've owned. My first was a pink Huffy. The second, a blue Schwinn. Maybe I just like to say "Raleigh Retroglide Cruiser." Maybe "Big Red" just somehow doesn't suit her perfectly. Maybe I just need to get to know her a little better. Truthfully, I should take her out more. But she's a little heavy, to be honest. Maybe it's me. Maybe I should get stronger to lift her up and down those flights of stairs. I've also added a basket on, so with that and her handlebars, she's a bit wide.

To find her, I called every bike shop in New York. I knew it had to be this 04 model, and I knew it had to be red. Finally, I called a local bike shop in my parents' state. Sure enough! So, after buying her over the phone with my credit card, my mum picked her up and stored her for about 4 months. Then she was disassembled to fit in a rental car and stored in my apt for another 5 months. Girl, you are dusty! Well, this is the second season I have with her. I'm glad she was the one. She sure is pretty! If only I could find a Toto to ride along in the basket, I'd be golden!
