I'll Never

I'll never be 19 again
I'll never again have that first kiss
I won't get off a plane and discover Europe
Or wear a size zero

But I can still get up on a Saturday morning
And have the whole day & night
I can do as I please
I can go to the Met

And, finally, I can unapologetically be Myself.

What's My Secret?

I use the handicapped bathroom stall at work. I like the way it's so much bigger than my bathroom at home. Sometimes I just sit there, reveling in the space. There isn't anyone in our company who actually needs it, so there! And, in a way, it's disabling for me to use my small bathroom at home. Small spaces can be quite dangerous. You're always hitting your funny bone. Dropping things from your etagere into the toilet and having to fish them out. Ewww!

Happy Birthday, Blog!

Phew! My blog turned one year old last week! How did that happen?

You don't look one year old! How do you feel? There, there. Mama will get you a nice piece of cake. Good girl! Good girl!

Forging into new territory

There are many, many paths an actor can take in her career. Musicals, film, regional theatre, commercials, soaps...and on and on. For the most part, I've been concentrating on stage work. But ever since voice class in college, I've also been interested in voice-over work. Actually, maybe it started in my mother's English class, when I got up in front of the class and recited poetry for assignments. No matter...!

For the past year, I've really been talking about it seriously. And back in May, I started taking classes. Initially I took an intro class. And then I went on to private lessons. And then...I made my very first commercial voice-over reel! It's really great! The material? Applebee's, Blockbuster, Fuji, Easter Seals and Payless! 5 commercials in one minute.

And now I have to get a CD cover designed. How to market my voice...wow. It's weird!

Every princess needs her pod...

I'm a "girly-girl." (Is that term even still "in play"??) Growing up, I think I was called a "priss." It kind of smarted when I took an image workshop this year and that word came up. But there are many more sides to me than just that (luckily). And I can just use it in the acting!

Recently I went to a girl's apartment in Brooklyn. She and her husband have a loft. They actually have to share a shower and bathroom with others on their floor, which kind of stinks. But here's the thing: To make up for that, her husband built her her own dressing room in the loft. The walls are pink, and the floor is green. She has a white desk. And bookshelves full of grrl lit. And the Madonna nesting dolls! And all her clothes hung out where she can see them! And her shoes are on racks like in the store!! It's sooo much more than a California Closet! AND...she used to work at Barney's, so she has some serious brands in there.

OH, to have that! Or, even just a vanity!
