It's awfully sad when a coffee shop is replaced by a
mattress showroom.

Is anyone else ever scared that you're floating around in a bubble of cliche?

An ugly story

My coworker walks to work for fitness sometimes. It can take her two hours! But she seems to really enjoy it. This week she walked into an awful sight - a crime scene. Right on the main street in our quiet neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights, there was a body covered in a sheet, while the police were roping off the area. A Brooklyn law professor had been hit and killed by a garbage truck. My coworker got to work and tried to find out what happened on the Internet. She watched the news that evening. Nothing. A few days later, she finally saw a blurb online. And my girlfriend also said it was in another paper. But, it's just weird when something like this happens near you...and doesn't make the television news. That's New York City.

You can do all your homework...

...and still not get the part! Those are the breaks, kiddies! Mr. H and I both auditioned for roles in a play being produced at our acting studio. I wouldn't say we prepared for months for the auditions, but we did work on the material.

The play was a Tennessee Williams one (our favorite!). I'd never technically done the full accent before, but after listening to a film of one of his plays, was able to pick it up so well that the director said during my audition, "Now, you're from the South, right?!" That was a compliment! But...after checking my voice service all week, realized the part was not to be mine.

Mr. H auditioned for a particular role, and was called back for a different role. You just can't always tell what the director is going for.

I suppose we'll still see the show, whether we are cast or not. But it will smart for awhile. Until something as good comes along!

One must know a broken heart
To play someone whose heart has been broken
But is the life experience really worth the prize?

To Sleep...

It is cold enough now, you said
to turn on the radiators
Their hissing drowns out the sound
of the humidifier
That was drowning out the sound
of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway
And the good part about winter, you said
is there are less people talking outside on the street below

It's past midnight
and you ask me to sleep
In the city that never sleeps
