Dreams and Nightmares

From time to time, I do have the dreaded Actor's Nightmare, where I dream that I am on stage and I have no idea what my lines or blocking are. I don't really have the "naked on stage" one, however. But here is a funny from a friend's young child, who woke up screaming the other night: When asked what his nightmare was about, he responded, "I lost my cupcake." Ah, such a life!

Girly-Girl Goes Experimental

Somehow I've fallen more than once into the throes of an experimental theater production. They just seem to find me. For this last show, upon the first rehearsal, the director requested I wear "comfortable" clothing. Oh, no, this sounds like work, I think! And, I have to admit, after the laborious movement exercises, I was a little sore the next day (which feels good, I talked myself into thinking!).

But what used to truly frighten me when I was younger, now liberates me, and I find freedom in experimental performances. And I feel just as proud of the use of creativity as I would doing any normal, kitchen-sink drama.

And now it's over. And nothing feels better than a well-deserved mani/pedi!

Just Press Pause

Over Christmas, I got to spend time with my two nephews and one niece. They are fun folks, if not exhausting. And you just can't take them shopping at all. Or watch anything you want to see on the television. But, hey, can't I do all that when I'm not on vacation?

So, I do get to pick up things from them. They are quite the study! My favorite thing I got from this visit is the "Pause" button. Apparently there is a show where the characters play this game. They pretend they have a remote control in their hand, and they pause their friends, who have to freeze until they un-pause them. Genius! I really want to use this in life! For "preachers" on the subway, certain people at work, oh, and back to the subway: the people who race ahead of me to score the seats! Yeah, what an awesome thing! Thanks, kids!

Like a delivery boy on a bicycle
He zipped in and out of her life
With no sign of returning
And no good reason except
The other girl
A common phenomenon
If not a tragic one

One of my favorites...

"How easily bread and water can become toast and tea!"

I coulda been in Paris...

My coworker invited me to Paris for her birthday this weekend. But I was being economical after the holidays, and, it turned out, I was cast in a play that's opening this week. Good thing I didn't book the ticket! I shouldn't complain too much, as I did go to Greece this summer. And, besides, Paris is for the spring, isn't it?

It's the new year, and there's just one thing I have to say:

Why is Rachel Ray on the front of my box of Wheat Thins????

(No, we are NOT related!!!)
